CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
 
Therapeutic Yoga
Modern medicine is now beginning to prove that the practice of yoga is therapeutic in nature and healing to the body, mind and spirit.  The positive effects of yoga postures (asana), breathing techniques (pranayama) and meditation have been explored in a number of patient populations including people with asthma, cardiac disease, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, headaches, depression, diabetes, pain disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, and addictions. Come join me as we take a fresh look at all the health benefits a yoga practice has to offer.  Chairs and blocks will be provided.
 
Winter Yoga I
Come enjoy a practice specially intended to make your winter healthy and happy.  Yoga is about honoring the body by being in tune with nature.  During the winter months, this means keeping warm and flexible while increasing your energy. Sun saluations and other creative flows will keep the body stretched and warm, stretches and exercises for the limbs such as chakrasana (wheel pose) and trikonasana (triangle pose) will be explored, plus breathing exercises, meditations and more.  Taught at a Yoga I level but modifications are made for all levels of students.
 
Teen Yoga
Just what every teen needs… a way to release after a busy week of school, athletics and activities. Teens will learn how to chill out and focus on the positive by practicing the fundamentals of yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation and relaxation. Most importantly, they will learn how to take these tools off of the mat and out into their lives! Athletic teams and groups welcome.
 
Tween Yoga
A yoga class just for middle schoolers! Today’s tweens deal with self-esteem issues, peer pressure, and the hectic schedule of school and activities. Tween yoga is the perfect place for them to reap the many benefits that yoga has to offer. In this class, tweens will learn the basics of yoga while introducing positive affirmations, meditation, and lively yoga poses.
 
Gentle Yoga
Gentle Yoga specializes in using props to gently challenge the ability of students to their maximum potential. Gentle Yoga provides a slower paced class, emphasizing breath work and stress reduction. Suitable for students desiring a less vigorous class and for those with health challenges. Instruction will be geared to the special needs of the individuals participating. Our Gentle Yoga classes are pre-natal friendly!
 
Yoga I
Enjoy improved muscle tone and flexibility, increased circulation, better concentration, and a deeper sense of well-being in this active beginner's class.  Yoga I introduces the principles of body alignment and breath awareness in the basic poses, and yoga fundamentals including the use of props.  This class is suitable for students who have never tried yoga before and beginners wishing to refine their understanding of the basics.
 
Yoga I/II
This moderately paced class builds on knowledge gained in Yoga I.  Refine your understanding of the principles of alignment and deepen your connection with your breath while continuing to build strength, endurance, and flexibility.  Students will learn more challenging variations of the basic poses and be introduced to new postures with modifications as appropriate for each individual.  This class is suitable for students who have completed at least one session or more of Yoga I or those who have prior yoga knowledge.
 
Girl Scout Yoga Badge Programs
Learning the practice of Yoga is a fun way for your troop to earn Girl Scout Badges!  Paige Schreiner and Maria Littlefield are both certified Level 1 & 2 Radiant Child Yoga Teachers in addition to being former Girl Scout leaders in Damascus.  If you are interested in a Fun Patch, Petal, Try-It, Badge or Special Interest Project, we have a program for you!  CPR/FA provided for all Girl Scout classes.
